Crown Switch Aerosol Analysis

Crown Switch is a next-generation closed pod vaping system that combines a rechargeable power unit with replaceable pre-filled pods. Designed for adult nicotine users, the modular platform uses advanced heating technology, materials engineering, and electronic control to support consistent aerosol generation throughout each pod’s life.

At the core of the platform is the proprietary Quantum Chip™, a non-ceramic heating element engineered to generate aerosol under controlled operating conditions. Its materials-engineering design is intended to avoid potential ceramic-derived particulates and associated heavy metals while supporting efficient, uniform thermal transfer to the e-liquid for consistent aerosol and flavor delivery.

The device’s electronic power management systems regulate energy delivery to the Quantum Chip™, helping maintain stable operating conditions as battery charge and pod usage change. This is intended to reduce heating variability, which can influence aerosol composition, nicotine delivery, flavor consistency, and overall product performance.

Scientific evaluation of the Crown Switch system includes Quantum Chip™ performance, aerosol chemistry, emissions characterization, materials analysis, device reliability, and toxicological assessment, providing evidence on how device architecture, the Quantum Chip™, and operating conditions influence aerosol generation and product performance.

In the first of a planned series of scientific publications on the Crown Switch platform, we have evaluated aerosol generation by the Quantum Chip™. Future studies will extend this evidence base through aerosol chemistry, analytical and toxicological characterization, human use behavior, clinical performance, and related disciplines to support transparent evaluation by scientific, public health, and regulatory communities.

Study Overview

This study evaluated levels of harmful and potentially harmful constituents (HPHCs) in aerosol generated from Crown Switch, incorporating Greentanks’ proprietary Quantum Chip™ platform, compared with FDA-authorized electronic vaping products and conventional combustible cigarettes. It is the first publication in a coordinated programme communicating the scientific evidence supporting evaluation of the Crown Switch platform.

McKinney Specialty Labs, LLC, an independent analytical laboratory in Richmond, Virginia, conducted the study measuring selected thermal degradation products and other HPHCs. Results were compared with Smith et al. (2024) data on HPHC emissions from commercially available North American electronic vaping products.

Aerosol was generated on linear analytical smoking machines and collected onto Cambridge filter pads, impingers, or other media appropriate to each method. Testing was performed in triplicate, with each replicate comprising a 50-puff block under an intense regime of 92 mL puff volume, 5-second puff duration, 30-second puff interval, and square-wave profile.

Aerosol emissions were evaluated from two 5% nicotine e-liquids, 9000505 VT 5% and 9000511 Arctic Mint 5%, at nominal device power settings of 4.5 W and 5.5 W. The e-liquids are identified by development names in these reports; final commercial names may differ, but the tested formulations are identical to those intended for commercialization.

The data demonstrate that the Quantum Chip™ platform generated substantially lower levels of the analyzed HPHCs than FDA-authorized comparator electronic vaping products, based on Smith et al. data for North American vaping products (Figures 1 and 2), and markedly lower levels than conventional cigarette smoke. These findings suggest the technology may reduce the formation of selected harmful constituents during aerosol generation.

These data should be interpreted within the scope of the analytical assessment and do not establish overall product safety. Subsequent studies will further evaluate engineering performance, aerosol chemistry, toxicology, human use, and related disciplines to support a comprehensive understanding of the product.
